Today I want to continue talking about Steam but I want to now talk about Steam Community and a script I created to make Steam Profile Signatures. Steam Community allows you to create your own profile page, create and join groups, track stats and chat with Steam friends and groups. My Steam Community Profile Page is http://www.steamcommunity.com/id/KnifeyGavin and it’s what I’m going to be using when talking about Steam Profile Signatures.
Steam Profile Signatures are dynamic images which shows information about your Steam Profile. You can display information like their name, if they are online, offline or in game, their most played game and many more. The main use of Steam Profile Signatures is for use in forum signatures. I have created the following image to show you an idea of how the image works.

As a test, I created a simple hello world by making a web page that just showed my name – http://www.gavineke.com/steam/
Now after a bit of work I got my Steam Profile Signature to look like this:

This image gets all its information from http://www.steamcommunity.com/id/KnifeyGavin and is generated when the image is requested, the information from http://www.steamcommunity.com is cached for 5 minutes. The image can be used in a forum such as phpBB by using this code – .
There are websites that will do this for you like http://steamprofile.com and if you need help with the PHP code you can use this website – http://www.attropheed.com/2009/11/dynamic-php-steam-status-signature/.
Finally the script I made is available here – SteamCommunity Signature Script *note: This is a compressed RAR archive you will require WinRAR to extract, this is available from http://www.rarlab.com.
